Engineering and construction group SNC-Lavalin has been awarded four projects by Sasol.

The first three contracts would be carried out at Sasol’s Secunda plant, with the first project involving engineering, procurement and construction modifications for the Dorr Oliver filters and their respective auxiliaries at Sasol Synfuels’ Coal Processing West Plant. Work on this project had already started and was due for completion early in May.

Secondly, SNC-Lavalin would implement a project to monitor fugitive emissions at predetermined points on the piping systems of the Sasol Secunda plant.

When completed, the Sasol environmental department would transfer the readings into a database for interpreting and monitoring purposes. This project – which would see 100 000 points monitored a year – would be completed in July 2017.

The third contract would entail the provision of welding hot-work services.

Meanwhile, SNC-Lavalin Kentz Field Operations had started work on a five-year term agreement for the provision of management support, coordination and supply of hot-work resources to undertake off site prefabrication and on site welding maintenance work on the existing gas, Tar Phenosolven & Sulphur (TPS) and oxygen plants.

The fourth project would see the SNC-Lavalin Kentz Field Operations team working on the preparation for the the first-quarter wax plant shutdown, in Sasolburg.

The planning and preparation phase started in October last year and comprised comprehensive on site scope validation, a development and a ratification phase.

“These awards highlight our strong relationship with Sasol. We pride ourselves on our aligned values with this valued client, in terms of safety, quality and certainty of delivery, and look forward to continuing our successful association with them,” SNC-Lavalin oil and gas president Christian Brown said.
