Sintoukola (Kola) sylvinite project, Republic of Congo
Name of the Project
Sintoukola (Kola) sylvinite project.
Location
The Kola project is located in the Sintoukola potash project, in the Republic of Congo.
Client
Kore Potash.
Project Description
Sylvinite is a mixture of rock-salt and sylvite (potassium chloride) and is the preferred ore for potash production globally.
A 2012 prefeasibility study (PFS) indicated that the project had the potential to be one of the lowest-operating expenditure mines in the world. Kola has a measured and indicated sylvinite mineral resource of 508-million tonnes, grading 35.4% potassium chloride.
The PFS proposed the production of two-million tonnes a year of muriate of potash over 23 years using conventional mining methods.
The Kola deposit will be accessed by two 7-m-diameter shafts about 260 m deep. The intake shaft will include a man and material cage, while the exhaust shaft will be equipped with a pocket belt ore-hoisting system.

Latest Developments
Kore Potash continues to make progress with the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for its Sintoukola (Kola) potash project.
The DFS, which is being undertaken by a French consortium, has progressed from design engineering to estimating final construction costs and the execution schedule.
Kore has used the quarter ended March 31 to start the process of optimising the capital and operating expenditure estimates, execution schedule and final designs.
The DFS schedule has been slightly revised, owing to additional redesign work pertaining to further optimisation of the flotation area of the process plant.
Third-party testing of the optimised designs have been completed with results supporting an improved recovery from the PFS.
Further, the final test results for the optimised float circuit have shown positive results that support the inclusion of the optimisations in the DFS. The company expects to publish the final results of the DFS by the third quarter.
Meanwhile, the procurement process is nearing completion, with most packages finalised for the DFS. The issuance of the final material offtake agreements has begun.
Final report writing is under way, with draft documents expected in the second quarter. The shaft design has also been finalised.
Hydrogeological testing and modelling, as well as the detailed engineering designs of underground facilities, are complete.
