Shuaibah 3 independent water project (IWP).

Location
About 120 km south of Jeddah, in western Saudi Arabia.

Project Owner/s
Acwa Power and Public Investment Fund-owned Badel, Shuaibah Water Electricity Company and Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC).

The ACWA Power-Badel consortium will lead the implementation of the project while SWPC will serve as the offtaker.

Project Description
The project entails the conversion of the Shuaibah 3 independent water and power project (IWPP) from an energy-intensive power generation and thermal desalination facility to a greenfield seawater reverse osmosis plant.

Once complete, Shuaibah 3 IWP will produce 600 000 m3/d of water, catering to the demands of Jeddah and Makkah al-Mukarramah, especially during peak demand periods such as the holy month of Ramadan and the Hajj seasons.
