Petrochemicals group Shell launched a new range of products in its Rimula heavy-duty diesel engine oil (HDDEO) range at the Maslow Hotel, in Sandton, last month.

The new Shell Rimula R6 LM 10W-40 fully synthetic HDDEO features the company’s unique Dynamic Protection Plus Technology. It combines Shell’s proprietary PurePlus Technology – a process that converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil – with its Adaptive Additive Technology, which provides improved protection for modern heavy-duty diesel engines.

Shell commercial lubricants sales GM Anton Niemann explained that the new Rimula R6 LM could offer up to 53% better protection against engine wear and deposits, especially cam wear, with reduced oil consumption of up to 45%.

The oil’s upgraded CJ-4 specification now exceeds ACEA, MAN and Mercedes-Benz specifications for engine wear and cleanliness to ensure extended oil drain intervals and lower emissions. Its low sulphur, ash and phosphorus formulation also significantly reduces downtime caused by ash that clogs the diesel-particulate filters.

Further, the Shell Rimula label design has undergone a significant upgrade across the range to enable customers to access key information quickly, while emphasising the brand’s reputation in the industry. The new label design aims to exploit the space on the packaging to make it easier for customers to quickly navigate key information such as the Shell pecten, the brand name and the oil viscosity.

SAVING

Meanwhile, independent transport economist Andrew Marsay highlighted that, owing to reduced oil consumption when using Shell Rimula products regularly, it was possible to save about 2.5% of a fleet’s operating costs.

“Shell is applying principles of sustainability to its product design by increasing commercial productivity, reducing environmental impact and improving socioeconomic opportunities, known as the triple bottom line,” he said.
