Senwes says solar installation will reduce carbon emissions
The installation of 2 392 solar panels at South African agribusiness Senwes’s head office, in Klerksdorp, will prevent a projected 1 172 t/y of carbon emissions, equivalent to emissions from 270 cars or the burning of 481 t/y of coal.
CEO Joe Maswanganyi says the project, which was completed in June, will prevent about 1 kg of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour, as well as result in cost savings of R2-million in the first year.
Senwes’s buildings and carports are covered with 2 392 solar panels with a total capacity of 753.48 kW.
The total projected solar use per year is 1.17-million kilowatt hours, which constitutes 39% of the total electricity consumption at the Senwes head office.
This project started in January and was integrated into the existing electricity grid in June.
