On Friday, 15 April 2016 beneficiaries of the De Beers Teacher Subvention Programme visited De Beers, Venetia Mine. The Teacher Subvention Programme funds fifty-six additional educators and administrators for three local schools in Musina (Messina Primary School, Musina High School and Eric Louw High School). De Beers invested R3.3 million into the programme last year which included school fee subsidies for disadvantaged learners in the two fee-paying schools.
School Governing Bodies (SGB’s) were treated to a tour of the openpit viewpoint and the ore processing plant at South Africa’s largest diamond mine.

“De Beers recognises the School Governing Bodies are an important element in the successful management of our local schools. As one of our social partners, it is important for schools to understand our business and the inherent opportunities for employment, development and community investment that exist within the mining industry” says Corporate Affairs Manager, Josephine Pieters when commenting on the visit.
