Scarborough gasfield development, Australia
Name of the Project
Scarborough gasfield development.
Location
The project is located 330 km off the shore of Australia.
Client
Woodside (75%) and BHP (25%).
Project Description
The project has a contingent resource of 7.3-trillion cubic feet and supports the recovery of volumes of more than 500-billion cubic feet per well.
Woodside is proposing to develop the Scarborough resource with 12 subsea, high-rate gas wells tied back to a semisubmersible platform moored in 900 m of water.
The estimated 20 000 t topside has processing facilities for gas dehydration and compression to transport the gas through an estimated 400 km pipeline to the Woodside-operated Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.
The composition of the Scarborough gas is well suited to the Pluto LNG plant, which is designed for lean gas and nitrogen removal.

Latest Developments
Woodside has increased the forecast capital investment to develop its Scarborough gasfield from the previous estimate of between $8.5-billion and $9.5-billion to $11-billion.
The increase in expected capital spend comes on the back of an increase in the capacity of the second train at the Pluto LNG plant, from between 2-million and 3.3-million tonnes to between 4-million and 5-million tonnes.
Woodside has previously flagged plans to accelerate the development of the Scarborough gasfield after increasing its interest in the project to 75% by buying ExxonMobil’s share.
“We are working to unlock maximum value from our existing infrastructure by processing gas from Scarborough through a low-cost expansion of Pluto LNG and Browse through the North West Shelf facilities.
“The progress we are making in Horizon 1 will enable us to develop these projects in time for the expected global LNG supply shortfall in the early 2020s,” Woodside CEO Peter Coleman has said.
