The South African Technology Network (SATN), which was established in 2006 by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, the Central University of Technology, the Durban University of Technology, the Tshwane University of Technology and the Vaal University of Technology, has appointed vice-chancellor and principal Professor Irene Moutlanaas as deputy chairperson.

Moutlana, who was nominated for the Business Woman of the Year in 2012, holds a master's degree and doctorate in education from Harvard University, in the US.

"The sterling work she has done throughout her career in the higher education sector is proof of the quality of Irene's invaluable contributions," commented SATN CEO Dr Jeffrey Mabelebele.

The SATN was established to promote the development of national education and training policies in accordance with the nature and character of the universities of technology, and to represent the universities at international level.
