Sasol launches new, low-sulphur turbodiesel
South African petrochemicals company Sasol on Wednesday launched its Sasol turbodiesel ultralow sulphur (ULS) 10 ppm product to the local market, stating that the fuel was a step forward in moving South Africa closer to cleaner fuel specifications in line with international standards.
The group noted that Sasol turbodiesel ULS 10 ppm already complied with sulphur and cetane requirements.
The diesel, which was guaranteed to contain 10 ppm or less sulphur, was said to have the lowest sulphur diesel content in South Africa and had advanced detergency and lubricity properties to keep engines and fuel injection systems clean and well protected.
It would also allow latest-technology vehicles, fitted with exhaust after-treatment devices, to operate freely in South Africa, and less regeneration effort would be required to keep such devices in an active state, while also extending their service life.
“We are continuously looking for ways to enhance our products to enable the latest-technology vehicles to be introduced in South Africa and ultimately benefit the general consumer. It is indeed a huge milestone for Sasol and South Africa,” Sasol Oil retail manager Mohamed Carrim said.
He added that the Sasol turbodiesel ULS 10 ppm was suitable for all diesel vehicles, from the latest-technology to older generation models, with or without turbocharging.
“A key part of the Sasol turbodiesel ULS 10 ppm is its advanced detergency. This prevents or removes deposit build-up in the engine and fuel system, allowing the engine to operate at optimum efficiency and sustain optimum fuel consumption over time. Continued use will maintain new fuel systems, as well as clean up dirty fuel systems,” he said.
The diesel was currently available at 78 forecourts in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, and the product would be selectively rolled out to other areas of the country in the next two years.
