Name of the Project
Sambangalou dam project.

Location
South-east of Senegal, close to the Guinean border.

Project Owner/s
The Gambia River Basin Development Organisation (OMVG), which comprises The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a 91-m-high dam, with a capacity of 128 MW, generating renewable energy, improving irrigation of farm land and supplying drinking water for surrounding districts.

The electricity generated by the dam will be injected into the grid of the four countries of the OMVG, where several hundred kilometres of high-voltage lines will be installed.

Potential Job Creation
At its peak, the project will employ 1 000 people, recruited and trained locally.

Capital Expenditure
The contract is valued at €388-million.

Planned Start/End Date
The work is expected to begin in the first half of 2021 and is scheduled to last 48 months.
