Sakaka photovoltaic (PV) independent power producer (IPP) project.

Location
Saudi Arabia.

Client
Sakaka Solar Energy Company, a joint venture between ACWA Power (70%) and AlGihaz (30%) through its subsidiary AlGihaz Renewable Energy Company.

Project Description
The project is the first-ever utility-scale renewable-energy project to be developed in Saudi Arabia under the landmark National Renewable Energy Programme executed by the Renewable Energy Project Development Office.

On completion, the 300 MW Sakaka PV IPP will supply more than 75 000 households with green power while offsetting the emission of more than 430 000 t/y of carbon dioxide.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create new jobs in construction, operations and maintenance, as well as enhance the local capabilities in terms of local content.

Value
SR1.2-billion.

Duration
The project is expected to go into commercial operation towards the end of this year.

Latest Developments
The project reached financial close in November.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Mahindra Susten and Chint consortium (engineering, procurement and construction contract) and Diaa Sakaka Operation and Maintenance Company, a subsidiary of First National Operations and Maintenance.
