The South African Independent Power Producers Association (Saippa) has appointed Sisa Njikelana as chairperson.

The former MP had previously served as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Energy, as well as a member of the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry.

“Njikelana will bring valuable experience and skills on organisational effectiveness, government relations, policy and legislation in the energy sector [to the table],” Saippa said in a statement.

The organisation, which represents the interests of a number of independent power producers in South Africa, is an active player in contributing to civil and government debates and policy formation processes.

It made contributions towards the review of South Africa’s Integrated Resources Plan 2010, as well as the establishment, by Cabinet, of a War Room to deal with the country’s electricity challenges.
