National carrier South African Airways (SAA) would be resuming its nonstop flights between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and New York’s JFK International Airport on March 9, three weeks ahead of its original schedule.

SAA said while its New York–Johannesburg flight had continued to operate nonstop daily, the return flight had temporarily been making a one-hour refuelling stop in Dakar, Senegal, partially as a result of lower travel demand during the winter.

The airline further stated that the nonstop flight from Johannesburg to New York would be timed to arrive in the US in the early morning, allowing customers to quickly connect on flights to other points throughout North America.

“Over the years, the [Johannesburg-New York] service has become exceptionally popular, with our customers praising the combination of its schedule, the ease of connections both throughout the African continent and in the US, as well as the unique South African hospitality on board,” SAA North America executive VP Marc Cavaliere commented.
