The National Health Insurance scheme, approved by cabinet this week, will be funded through a central fund, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe said on Friday.

“Cabinet approved the publication of the white paper on the national health insurance for South Africa for public comment,” Radebe said during a post-cabinet media briefing.

“This national health insurance is part of government’s major health sector reforms.”

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi would provide more detail on the white paper and how it would be funded later on Friday.
