RS Components (RS), a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a global omni-channel solutions partner for industrial customers and suppliers, has been shortlisted in the annual National Diversity Awards, which celebrate unity in our society by recognising positive role models who actively promote and inspire diversity and inclusion.
RS is one of 12 finalists in the ‘Diverse Company’ category and has been recognised for building a culture where its employees feel safe and valued as individuals. The National Diversity Awards are run each year in association with ITV News, a major TV network provider in the UK. Organisations, charities, role models and community heroes are honoured at these awards, showcasing their outstanding efforts and contribution to creating a more diverse society that embraces all citizens.
Electrocomponents is a strong proponent of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and has a formal policy in place underpinning the company’s commitment to embracing difference and to ensuring that people within the organisation feel trusted and respected. A team dedicated to diversity and inclusion has been actively engaged over the past 18 months in putting this ethos into practice across Electrocomponents’ global businesses.
Among the milestones achieved to date are the installation of wellbeing rooms in several locations, the creation of networking groups, mental health first aider training for employees, and REflect, an event co-hosted with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) aimed at informing and inspiring young people from minority communities into engineering and technology.
Lindsley Ruth, CEO Electrocomponents, said: “I am extremely proud that we have been shortlisted as one the 12 nominees in this Company category. Not only is this a testament to the fantastic work that our diversity and inclusion team has been responsible for initiating over the past 18 months, but this recognition goes to every single person in our business who actively ensures we are building a culture where everyone feels safe to bring their true selves to work each day.
“Diversity in all its forms is essential to building a workforce that reflects the communities, customers and suppliers that we serve across the globe. We recognise there is always more we can do to continually challenge and improve. I am proud to lead an organisation which is on a journey and is taking the necessary steps in making sustainable and systemic changes to ensure we do our best and support our people so they can make amazing things happen every day.”
The winners of the National Diversity Awards 2020 will be announced on Friday, 26 February 2021.
