REVOV sells lithium-iron batteries either as single units or in powerful systems made up of hundreds of batteries with a vision to provide freedom from the grid and provide storage for renewable energy generation. REVOV’s research indicates that it commands a 95% share of the local second life Lithium Iron Phosphate (2nd LiFe) residential and commercial battery storage market. REVOV sells about 20% of all lithium storage batteries in South Africa, which includes new LiFe batteries.

2nd LiFe batteries contain cells that were used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries. An EV battery is replaced after about five years when its weight no longer justifies its output. However, the batteries have a remaining design life of
6 000 cycles supported by a 10-year warranty when used for stationary applications – where weight does not matter. By repurposing these cells, REVOV offers customers lithium-iron performance that is affordable and the knowledge that 2nd LiFe is earth friendly.

2nd LiFe batteries are automotive grade, which means they are designed to better withstand harsh conditions including extreme vibration, higher temperatures, and higher charge and discharge rates. This means REVOV’s 2nd LiFe batteries will offer similar, and most often better, performance than new LiFe storage-grade batteries, but at a better price.

To meet the specific needs of South Africa and the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, REVOV has pioneered the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which is a containerised solution, with containers ranging from 10 foot (3 m) to 40 foot (20 m), that:

•   Meets the energy generation requirements of greenfield sites such as off-grid renewable plants.

•   Allows for generator fuel reductions in mining, construction and agriculture, and is designed for electrical cost reduction in manufacturing.

•   Is fit for purpose for micro-grids for residential or commercial complexes.

The REVOV BESS reduces operating costs by storing renewable energy for when it is needed most. Every kilowatt generated is optimised, while output is smoothed. The REVOV BESS is also designed to guarantee power for those dependent on the unreliable grid by forming a large uninterruptible power solution system. With BESS, Africans are no longer at the mercy of power interruptions – ultimately enjoying freedom from the grid.
