Renttech South Africa reaches new markets in the Western Cape

Renttech South Africa, a leader in the rental and sale of welding, power generation and construction-related equipment, is making its mark in Cape Town and the Western Cape as well as nationally.
Following its acquisition in April 2013 of Western Cape Welding Supplies, the company has successfully tapped into new markets from its premises in Stikland, adding to its ever increasing footprint across South Africa.
“The acquisition of Western Cape Welding Supplies has had a massive impact on our ability to reach a wider market and our logistical capacity to better service clients in the region,” comments Pieter Niewenhuis, Western Cape Branch Manager at Renttech South Africa. “The growth we have experienced has energised the company and we see a lot of potential for further expansion in the region.”
Renttech South Africa Western Cape, operating from two sites: Paarden Island and more recently Stikland, specialises in the rental of welding machines, gas cutting and plasma cutting equipment, grinding/polishing equipment, personal protective equipment as well as welding consumables, and services a wide range of industries in the region. These include oil and gas, mining, boiler manufacturing, ship repair, steel manufacturing and food and beverage. The company is now looking at moving to bigger, more accessible premises in Cape Town’s northern suburbs.
“The acquisition and our subsequent presence in Cape Town’s northern suburbs has enabled us to expedite stock quicker through our enhanced rental capacity and proximity to a new market. Our customers, both new and existing, are enjoying the benefits of a quicker turnaround time, thanks to our dedicated sales team, some of whom we hand-picked form our main depot in Paarden Island to take on the challenge,” says Jacques Tredoux, Sales Manager at Renttech Western Cape.
“A product is only as good as the service you can provide,” Tredoux continues. “Renttech South Africa is a serviced-based company, offering 24 hour standby technicians, and a team of experienced and knowledgeable technical staff. The fact that we have the distributorship for premium global brands such as Lincoln and Harris means we can offer quality products which are manufactured according to the strictest health and safety standards, backed, in the case of Harris, by a seven year warranty.”
Renttech South Africa was awarded the Harris distributorship for South Africa in October 2012. Industries such as mining and petrochemical have come to rely on the Harris range of metalworking products, knowing they can rely on the quality to match their own stringent safety rules, according to Tredoux. “As we ‘sell a service’, we are happy to provide a quality product which offers excellent backup and after-sales support.”
Harris, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lincoln Electric, manufactures a range of products used in the brazing, soldering, welding and cutting industries, including a range of flow control systems and gas regulators. The products, tailored to individual applications, perfectly complement the Renttech stable of product offerings, according to Managing Director of Renttech South Africa, Gerrit van Zyl.
“Our clients value the convenience of a one-stop shop. It is essential to be able to rent the best in the business backed by the best service. Our distributorship of Harris allows for this, further underscoring our vision of becoming the leading Southern African supplier of welding and construction-related equipment and servicing an ever-widening cross-section of industries,” van Zyl points out.
Renttech South Africa has recently enjoyed a successful growth period, during which the business has substantially increased its national footprint through a number of acquisitions. The company embraces both organic and acquisitive growth, Van Zyl, adding that another part of their success is ensuring that there is a constant Renttech presence on-site during a project, such as a petrochemical shutdown.
Further expansion plans for the Western Cape include a new satellite branch in Saldanha Bay’s industrial development zone in 2014. Meanwhile, Renttech is gearing up for another busy year in the region, with a number of projects on the go or in the pipeline. These include a major petrochemical shutdown, equipment replacement in the power generation industry, as well as ongoing rental and welding project work on three oil rigs in Cape Town.
“Customer service is top of the list, and we try to exceed expectations all the time. Renttech South Africa is a growing company with a winning industry offering – watch this space!” concludes van Zyl.
