Reflecting the continuing demand for upmarket office space in Sandown, Johannesburg, construction group Liviero has netted a R97-million contract to extend and upgrade an office block in the sought-after Sandown Valley Crescent.

The refurbishment of the building will complete a series of upgrades along Sandown Valley Crescent, which is conveniently located close to the Gautrain station and the JSE, in Sandton.

The five-storey office block will be extended to seven storeys, offering a total of 8 000 m2 of gross lettable area. The contract entails the construction of three new basement-parking levels, a glass façade, two reinforced concrete floors, three new lifts with scenic views and a complete remodelling of all the floors. The existing lift shafts will be con- verted into stairwells and two new fire escapes will also be constructed.

“The glass façade is a particularly challenging element of the project because it is being fixed from the inside of the building, off the existing slabs, without having to erect access scaffold around the façade, resulting in large savings in time and cost,” says Liviero Building CEO Neil Cloete.
