Ekurhuleni-based Reliable Transformers, which was established by HJ van Zyl more than 30 years ago, is now a major player in the African transformer market.

Transformers, inductors, reactors and plasma cutting power units are some of the products designed and manufactured in-house at the company’s 3 500 m2 factory at 17 Lincoln road, in Benoni.

All products are designed using state-of-the art computer-aided design tools. Reliable Transformers’ quality management systems, based on the ISO 9001:2008 standard, along with its production management systems, are completely computer-controlled, which enables the company to accurately plan and schedule jobs.

Reliable Transformers, which has been under the leadership of the founder’s son, Andre van Zyl, since 1995, employs about 80 people and is currently expanding its tank fabrication and paint application facilities.

The company is currently engaged in what a spokesperson describes as “numerous prestigious projects” in South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia.
