The recent trading update by aluminium-products manufacturer Hulamin gave worrying insight into the real financial costs of load-shedding. First-quarter output, the company said, had been impacted on by electricity curtailments, with interim earnings set to fall by more than 20% as a consequence. “Eskom is unable to provide advance notice of load curtailment and the frequency of curtailments has increased significantly in the last 30 days.”
