Project Description
The greenfield Quellaveco project is located in southern Peru, at 3 500 m above sea level, and is one of Anglo American’s biggest projects in the country.
The project is expected to produce an estimated 225 000 t/y of copper, as well as molybdenum and silver by-products.
Value
Capital expenditure is estimated at $3-billion.
Duration
Potential start-up is expected in 2016 and full production in 2017.
Latest Developments
Fluor Corporation has received a limited notice from Anglo American to proceed with engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the Quellaveco copper project.
This is an additional opportunity in the stage-gate process for Anglo American to validate the economic case of the project.
Fluor will provide project planning and early engineering services from its offices in Lima, Peru, and Santiago, Chile.
Additionally, Fluor will provide construction management and early works execution services for the project. The work is expected to be completed over the next 18 months.
