The Meeco Group  (0.05 MB)

The meeco Group extends its presence in the world Malé, Maldives. After a successful presentation and fruitful negotiations, The meeco Group concluded an agreement with one of the biggest business corporation on the Maldives islands, the Villa Group, which owns and operates the Maamigili airport.

Villa Group, through its Chairman Mr. Qasim on his very birthday, and The meeco Group shook hands on the installation of the largest solar PV installation in the Maldives. The first of several installations to be executed for Villa Group is foreseen to be finalized in the third quarter of this year. This sun2live project will be a ground installation synchronized with local diesel generators and will be able to provide 1,21 MWp of clean electricity. “We will engineer and design the sun2live system and deliver the European high quality components. Villa Group will arrange for the local installation whilst supervision and training for the local staff will be provided by The meeco Group.

The produced energy will be used by the airport as well as by the neighboured village and its school – the place where Mr. Qasim grew up and to which he still has a close relationship ”, explains Ms. Corinna Fischer, Director Projects of The meeco Group. Maldives’ government has been looking for a long time to decrease its energy dependency from diesel and replace it by clean and renewable energies. Indeed, the cost of diesel goes up to 20% the GDP of the Maldives. “Now they are entering a new era where their goal is to achieve a sustainable and environmental friendly economic growth. Already since 2011, The meeco Group has been in regular contact with Maldivian companies to discuss possible cooperation and projects. Not only is the Villa Group a significant private business company in Maldives but also an active player of local charity and education through its Villa College which just recently signed an agreement with Heilbronn University”, adds Mr. Jo Hanns Dieter Trutschler, Directors Sales of The meeco Group, who has also participated in the negotiations.

Corinna Fischer, who will provide supervision to the project on the Maldives says: “This pilot project is a substantial first step and we are looking forward to further investments with the prospect of reaching a volume of up to 3 MWp in 2014.” We are also in the process of founding a local company which will make us more effective and will strengthen our ties with Maldives.” About The meeco Group: The meeco Group was consolidated in 2000 and oriented its main focus towards the energy sector. With world headquarters located in Zug, Switzerland, the group currently has over 50 employees working across 4 continents. Thanks to a structured but flexible approach based on its core competencies, meeco has delivered over 320 MW of clean, renewable energy solutions across four continents. The meeco Group accomplishes its mission by providing project developers, investors, governments, and private businesses with the services necessary for timely financing, installation, and operation of clean energy assets.
