Electrical, automation and mechanical products and equipment supplier Elquip Solutions has increased its product range with antistatic flexible conduits from global conduit solutions provider Flexicon.

“The LTPAS and LTPPUAS flexible conduits can be used to avoid electrostatic charge build-up on installed equipment, including the surface of the conduit,” says Elquip Solutions MD Mike Cronin.

This issue of electrostatic charge build-up is particularly prevalent when working in hazardous areas, where flammable substances, such as vapours, gases or dust can escape during manufacturing, processing, storage and transport and, potentially create an explosive atmosphere, Cronin says.

Further, he emphasises that the products will add significant value to the market, as it provides users with flexibility and ease of operation.

“In addition, both systems comply with clause 7.4.2 of the EN 600079-0 standard, which refers to the avoidance of a build-up of electrostatic charge on Group I or Group II electrical equipment,” says Cronin.

Available in sizes from 16 mm up to 63 mm, the conduit systems are also compatible with all liquid tight fittings, including the new EXD flameproof barrier glands.

Product Specifications
The LTPAS liquid tight flexible conduit system is polyvinyl chloride coated, with a special anti-static additive, and has high compression strength of up to 400 kg and a high tensile strength of up to 130 kg. Available with Ingress Protection (IP) ratings up to IP68 and IP69K – which classifies the degrees of protection against both solids and liquids in electrical enclosures – the LTPAS can withstand temperatures from -20 °C to 105 °C.

Meanwhile, the LTPPUAS liquid tight flexible conduit system is polyurethane coated with a special anti-static additive, offering high abrasion resistance and superior protection for demanding environments.

Available with IP ratings of up to IP68 and IP69K, the cable protection system can withstand temperatures from -40 °C to 80 °C.

Benefits of nonmetallic conduit systems include easy installation and reduced installation times, reduced whole life costs, and no risk of water or dust ingress, Cronin points out.

Citing Elquip Solutions’ continuous focus on meeting customers’ individual specifications, Cronin emphasis that the company strives to offer a wide product range.

“Introducing a specialised anti-static product to the local market allows us to further support customers who are working in hazardous and challenging environments,” he says.

Further, Cronin adds that the product will be a welcome addition to the competitive and price-conscious South African market, as customers tend to look for a range of options which would meet their required objectives, while strictly adhering to budgets.

“Both the LTPAS and LTPPUAS flexible conduit systems are included within the new Flexicon hazardous area range, complementing each other to offer a well-rounded solution to the market,” Cronin concludes.
