Prepare for the future of trade: Understanding Digital Product Passports
As global sustainability regulations continue to evolve, African businesses face a new challenge—and opportunity—with the introduction of Digital Product Passports (DPPs).
Join Sustainability & ESG Africa Conference and Expo for an insightful webinar on July 23, 2026, at 15:00 (SAST), where a panel of speakers will be exploring what DPPs mean for African industries, exporters and value chains.
Introduced under the European Union's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, Digital Product Passports will become mandatory for selected products entering the EU from 2027. Acting as a digital identity for products, DPPs will provide detailed information on a product's origin, materials, environmental footprint, repairability, recyclability and compliance with sustainability requirements. They are also expected to play an important role alongside the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
For Africa, the implications are significant. Many of the continent's economies depend on agriculture, mining, manufacturing, textiles and complex supply chains where traceability can be challenging. DPPs have the potential to improve transparency, strengthen sustainability credentials, unlock export opportunities and support circular economy initiatives.
However, they also introduce new reporting, monitoring and verification requirements that could place additional pressure on businesses—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.
This webinar will examine how African businesses, policymakers and industry stakeholders can prepare for this changing regulatory landscape while ensuring that local suppliers, communities and economies benefit from the transition to more transparent and sustainable value chains.
