Port of Palmeira expansion and modernisation, Cape Verde.
Project description
The project consists of the modernisation and expansion of the ports of Palmeira and Praia.
The project will be divided into two phases.
The first phase of the project will include the construction of a new breakwater and the lengthening of the existing quay by 120 m, the supply of a ro-ro ramp with a width of 20 m, the dredging of the approach channel with an indicative water depth of 7,3 m, the paving of 3,5 ha of the port area and the construction of a temporary passenger terminal.
Phase two will start a few months after the start of the first phase works and will be the subject of a separate tender.
Value
The project will cost an estimated €103-million.
The works will be financed through an inter-national bank loan and the State of Cape Verde budget.
The government of Cape Verde through the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure Transport and Sea has applied for an investment loan to the European Investment Bank (EIB).
