Name and Location
Polyethylene plant complex project, Litvínov, Czech Republic.

Client
Unipetrol.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a new polyethylene unit 3 (PE3), which will produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that is also produced by two polyethylene units currently in operation. The PE3 unit will comprise a natural line with a production capacity of 270 000 t/y, and a black line with a production capacity of 100 000 t/y.

Unipetrol’s production capacity of HDPE is currently 320 000 t/y, comprising 120 000 t/y from polyethylene unit 1 (PE1) and 200 000 t/y from polyethylene unit 2 (PE2). The PE3 unit will replace the PE1 unit.

Therefore, Unipetrol’s (P2 and P3) production capacity will increase to 470 000 t/y.

The PE3 unit will allow for more efficient use of the steamcracker unit producing ethylene, which is further processed through polyethylene units and will also contribute to higher integration of Unipetrol’s refining and petrochemicals production.

The new unit will be among the most advanced units of this type in Europe and the biggest investment in the history of the Czech petrochemicals industry.

Value
Total capital expenditure for the whole PE3 unit project, including the licence already bought and works to be per-formed by other contractors, will be an estimated K8.5-billion.

Duration
Technip will start construction works during second quarter 2016. Construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter 2018, with commissioning planned for mid-2018.

Latest Developments
Unipetrol has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Technip Italy for construction of the PE3 at the Litvínov plant.

Meanwhile, Metrostav and ČKD Praha DIZ are currently on site at the Litvínov plant, performing all preparatory works needed for the construction of PE3.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Technip (EPC), Metrostav and ČKD Praha DIZ.

On Budget and on Time?
