Pluto plant lifts Woodside’s 2012 output to record high
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - Australian petroleum producer Woodside on Thursday reported that production from its Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant had lifted yearly production to record levels.
During the full year 2012, Woodside produced a record 84.9-million barrels of oil equivalent, a 30% increase on the 2011 production figures.
“Our full-year production levels clearly demonstrate what a game changer Pluto is for Woodside, with production levels consistently above our expectations,” said CEO Peter Coleman.
“It has resulted in a step-change in our annual sales revenues, positioning us to pursue value-adding growth opportunities such as potential LNG developments in Israel, and exploration activities in Myanmar.”
Quarterly production for the three months to December were also 46% higher compared with the previous corresponding period, largely owing to the start-up of the Pluto LNG project in April of last year.
Production increases were also reported for the North West Shelf LNG project.
Fourth-quarter production reached 24.3-million barrels of oil equivalent, compared with the 16.6-million barrels produced in the December quarter of 2011. However, this was 8% lower than the previous three months, owing to scheduled maintenance activities and seasonal factors.
During the quarter, the Pluto LNG project delivered more than one-million tons of LNG, and 777 703 barrels of condensate.
The North West Shelf LNG project, in turn, in October achieved a major milestone, loading the three thousandth LNG cargo from the Karratha gas plant for the Japanese market.
Meanwhile, record yearly sales revenue was also reported for the full year, up 30%, to A$6.2-billion, when compared with 2011.
