PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Explorer Pilbara Minerals has boosted the mineral resource estimate at its Pilgangoora tantalum/lithium project, in Western Australia, following an infill and extension reverse circulation drill programme last year.

The ASX-listed company on Monday announced a 95% increase in the total contained tantalite resource at Pilgangoora, with the project  estimated to host an indicated and inferred resource of 21.77-million tonnes, grading 0.022% tantalite for 10.7-million pounds of tantalite and a lithium resource of 16.6-million tonnes, at 1.16% spodumene, for 192 000 t of lithium oxide.

Pilbara noted that the updated mineral resource also featured a 120% increase in contained lithium oxide.

The junior told shareholders that the increased resource also upped the company’s confidence that the Pilgangoora project was a world-class asset of strategic value and potentially represented a company-making growth opportunity alongside the Tabba Tabba tantalum project.

The next phase of in-fill drilling at Pilangaroo would start later this week and would focus on the central and northern zones identified within the current resource area.

The work was aimed at further increasing the confidence in the resource categories within the higher-grade domains.
