Name and Location
Peterhead carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, Scotland.

Client
Shell and SSE.

Project Description
Shell and SSE are proposing the development of the world’s first commercial-scale full-chain gas CCS demonstration project – the Peterhead CCS project.

Up to ten-million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions could be captured from the Peterhead power station, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and then transported by pipeline and stored, in the depleted Goldeneye gas reservoir, at a depth of more than 2 km under the North Sea, about 100 km off-shore.

Adding CCS to a gas power plant can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 90%. In addition, CCS is the only way to collect the CO2 from heavy industry such as cement and other industrial facilities.

Once the Feed is completed, an investment decision will taken by Shell and the UK government.

Technip has been awarded a contract by Shell to provide Feed for the onshore elements of the project.
