Project Description
The project involves the design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer of an 80 MW power plant to produce electricity from peat extracted from the South Akanyaru peat prospect, in Gisagara district.

The project will be fully implemented by Hakan Madencilik Ve Elektrik Uretim.

The Rwanda government will assist Hakan by building roads for the power plant.

Value
Hakan will spend $400-million into the project.

Duration
The project will take 47 months to build. Power is expected to come on line at the end of March 2020.

Latest Developments
The Rwanda government has signed power purchase and concession agreements with Hakan in February this year to design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer the power plant.
