Project Description
The project involves the supply of 70 additional metro cars for Line 1 of the Panama Metro. The existing signalling system and power supply will also be updated, and the size of the depot will also be increased to accommodate the bigger fleet. With the new cars, Metro de Panama will extend the metro trainsets from three cars to five while adding six trainsets, bringing the number of metros circulating on the line to 26.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Duration
Delivery of the new cars is expected to begin in early 2017.

Latest Developments
Alstom, leader of a consortium including Thales, Sofratesa, CIM and TSO, has been awarded a contract by Metro de Panama SA to supply 70 additional metro cars for Line 1 of the Panama Metro. Alstom will also update the existing signalling solution and power supply, and increase the size of the depot. Alstom’s share of the contract is valued at €130-million.
