Paarl Africa Underground Laboratory (PAUL).

The Du Toits Kloof mountains in the Western Cape, South Africa.

University of Stellenbosch.

Project Description
The 10 000 m3 laboratory will be accessed through the existing Huguenot tunnel, 800 m underneath the surface.

An engineering feasibility study will determine the viability of establishing the PAUL just off the tunnel as part of the South African National Roads Agency’s plans to upgrade the North Bore tunnel to decrease traffic volumes in the existing South Bore tunnel.
