Project Description
The project involves the full reconstruction and rehabilitation of 23.6 km of the P39/1 (route M26/R511) from Laudium/Erasmia, south-west of Pretoria, to Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, which will extend to Malibongwe drive.

This includes the complete reconstruction of a large section of the road, the intense rehabilitation of selected sections of the road, the removal of existing pavement surfacing and road layers, the reconstruction of the drainage system, the widening of lanes and the addition of climbing lanes; as well as road landscaping.

Value
R305-million.

Duration
The project is expected to take two years to complete.

The project broke ground on July 9.

None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
The initial project was valued at R28.5-million and was launched in February 2012, however, owing to poor performance by the contractor the contract had to be terminated.
