PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper/gold miner Oz Minerals on Friday announced the appointment of Andrew Cole as MD and CEO, to replace Terry Burgess.

Cole would start on December 3, and would be relocating from Canada where he had served as COO of mining giant Rio Tinto’s iron and titanium division in that country.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to join Oz Minerals and to return to Australia to lead an Australian-listed mining company,” Cole said on Friday.

Burgess’ departure date has not yet been finalised, and he would assist Cole in a smooth handover.

“Under Burgess’ stewardship, Oz Minerals had a disciplined balance between pursuing strategic growth and rewarding shareholders for their investment with around A$1.2-billion returned to shareholders while maintaining a strong balance sheet," said company chairperson Neil Hamilton.

He also credited Burgess for his leadership at the Prominent Hill project, in South Australia, which was currently punching above its nameplate capacity and where the Ankata underground operation was being developed.
