Name and Location
Oxfordshire solar power plant project, England.

Client
A joint venture between First Solar and Belectric.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of 46 MW direct current utility-scale power plant in Oxfordshire, Southern England.

When completed, the facility will produce 45-million kilowatt-hours of clean, solar electricity a year; enough to power about 14 000 average homes or an estimated 25% of the estimated 55 400 households in the City of Oxford.

A total of 483 157 of First Solar’s advanced thin-film modules will be used to power the facility, while Belectric will be responsible for the construction and the balance-of-systems requirements.

By displacing 20 000 t/y of greenhouse gases, the plant will maximise the share of climate-friendly power generation in the UK.

The project will comply with stringent sustainability standards designed to minimise its impact on the local environment and to support biodiversity initiatives.

Further, the land under the solar farm will continue to remain in food production through providing sheep grazing on the site, as was the case before the project was constructed.
