PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Hillgrove Resources on Tuesday reported a 25% increase in production for the third quarter ended October, compared with the previous quarter.

Hillgrove’s Kanmantoo mine, in South Australia, produced 4 306 t of copper in concentrate during the quarter, setting a new production record.

At the end of the second quarter, Hillgrove announced that it would undertake an owner-operator mining model at the Kanmantoo operation, terminating its mining services contract.

Higher-grade areas of ore below the old Kanmantoo pit were reached in the second half of the quarter, resulting in a substantial lift in grades. This also resulted in increased production during the quarter.

Hillgrove reported that the processing plant was also achieving sufficient volumes required to meet the production target of between 80 000 t/y and 85 000 t/y, with focus continuing on ore feed and dilution control.

Copper recoveries through the plant have also increased during the second half of the quarter, in line with the ore grades.

For the full year, the Kanmantoo mine was expected to produce between 16 500 t and 18 000 t of copper in concentrate.

Meanwhile, revenue for the quarter reached A$32.8-million, compared with revenue of A$27.6-million in the previous quarter.
