Optimising transfer points

As mining operations and process plants expand to meet the increasing demand for battery and other minerals, transfer points can be optimised to ensure more cost-effective output.

Weba Chute Systems technical director Alwin Nienaber explains that three dimensional (3D) laser scanning technology can be used to gather detailed measurements of large infrastructure on a site. The data can be used to generate a 3D model which is then used to plan the design of chutes and componentry to be manufactured.

Nienaber notes that every transfer point exists in a relationship to other equipment, such as a screen, crusher or conveyor belt. He highlights that an understanding of this relationship will underpin the productive application of transfer point design and installation.

Weba Chute Systems’ chute design capabilities enable the manufacture of customised chutes built specifically for the applications required.

“Custom engineered chutes and transfer points have been shown to facilitate smoother flow of mined material, with greater reliability and uptime for a more streamlined and productive operation,” says Nienaber.

He asserts that Weba Chute Systems aims to ensure that its transfer point solutions achieve the most productive result for the customer, which may mean reconsidering the position of the upstream and downstream equipment.

“With our engineered design approach, we always consider the context of where our chutes are going to operate, and our decades of field experience allow us to advise the customer what will work best,” he says.
