JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) has lifted all Section 54 notices issued to the Zandfontein section at Eastern Platinum’s (Eastplats’) Crocodile River mine, with full operations resuming on Thursday.

The miner reported on Tuesday that the DMR had issued more Section 54 notices at the Zandfontein section, forcing restricted operations.

Drilling had continued, but blasting and cleaning operations were on hold until certain remedial measures implemented by the company had been reviewed by the DMR.

Eastplats last week resumed operations at the mine following a thorough investigation of the fatal accident that occurred at the Zandfontein section on February 5. Mining operations were suspended after shift supervisor Allan Swartz was fatally injured after falling down an empty ore pass.
