Project Description
The project comprises the Olive Downs South and Wilguna domains and associated linear infrastructures corridors, and involves the construction of a opencut metallurgical coal mine with a yield of up to 14-million tonnes a year of coking coal for steel production.
The mine will include a coal handling and preparation plant, an 18 km rail spur, a raw water pipeline connecting to the Eungella pipeline network, a private access road and an electricity transmission line.
Fully developed, the complex will be one of the largest coking coal mines in the world.

The project is expected to create 500 to 700 construction jobs and 960 operational jobs.

Latest Developments
The Queensland government has awarded the Olive Downs mine coordinated project status, enabling the independent Coordinator-General to efficiently coordinate the environmental assessment process for the coal mine across state and federal agencies. The coordinated project status marks the beginning of a process that will include a comprehensive environmental-impact assessment.
