Nyadi hydropower project, Nepal
Name of the Project
Nyadi hydropower project (NHP).
Location
The entire project area – from intake to powerhouse – is located within the Bahundanda Village Development Committee (VDC), in Lamjung district, Gandaki Zone, in Nepal. The NHP is located on the right bank of Nyadi Khola, which is one of the tributaries of the Marsyangdi river. The proposed intake site of the project is about 2.50 km upstream of Naiche village of Bahundanda VDC and about 9 km upstream of the confluence of the Nyadi and the Marsyangdi rivers. Similarly, the powerhouse has been proposed near Thulobeshi village of Bahundanda VDC about 3 km downstream from Naiche village.
Client
Nyadi Hydropower Limited (NHL), a joint venture between Butwal Power Company and the Lamjung Electricity Development Company.
Project Description
The NHP is a run-of-river type project and will have an installed capacity of 30 MW, generating 168.5 GWh/y.
Water from the Nyadi river will be diverted to the settling basin through the construction of a dam 14 m long by 10 m high, and then to the powerhouse through the tunnel.
The underground powerhouse will contain three turbines. The tailrace water from the powerhouse will be released back to the Nyadi river through a 222-m-long tailrace tunnel.
The generated power will be transmitted through a 7-km-long 132 kV capacity trans-mission line to the Khudi hub, which will be built by the Nepal Electricity Authority at Khudi VDC, in Lamjung district. From there, the NHP electricity will be linked to the national grid.
