Project Description
The DWS plans to build a dam downstream of the confluence of the Greater Letaba and Nwanedzi rivers. The dam is 34 m above the riverbed and 43.5 m above the estimated lowest foundation.
It is envisaged that a dam at the Nwamitwa site will have a storage capacity of 187-million cubic metres and will increase the firm yield from the river system for domestic use by 14-million cubic metres a year.

The project is estimated at R4.65-billion.
Duration
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Latest Developments
DWS plans to appoint the contractors for the roads and advanced works in March 2020 and the contractor for the construction of dam in March 2022. This is subject to the availability of funding and finalisation of certain land matters.
