PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore major Fortescue Metals has awarded a A$140-million contract to project house NRW Holdings for drilling services at the Cloudbreak mine, in Western Australia.

The four-year drilling programme, awarded to NRW’s wholly owned subsidiary Action Drill & Blast, was the largest contract awarded to the subsidiary to date. The company was established in 2010.

The contract would start immediately, with some 100 personnel and 15 drill rigs deployed to the Cloudbreak operation.

The Cloudbreak mine delivers some 40-million tons of ore a year, and forms part of Fortescue’s greater Chichester Hub operations, where the miner was ramping-up production to 95-million tons by the end of this year.
