Asogan Moodley has resigned as CEO of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), which is tasked with approving the technical specifications of products imported and sold in the country.

Media reports have claimed that Moodley resigned because of frustration at the lack of cooperation from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in processing certain letters of authority, that allow a product to be imported or traded on the local market.

The issuing of these letters usually takes up to 120 working days but has recently seen delays.

Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies said he accepted Moodley’s resignation, but expected NRCS labour and management to fully comply with the entity’s performance targets.

Davies further requested DTI director-general Lionel October to engage with management and labour to resolve any matters.
