TWK is a diversified group of companies operating in the agriculture, forestry, grain, financial services and motor & tyre industries.  They have 26 reputable and busy co-op stores around the country including locations such as Pongola, Piet Retief Hardware, Piet Retief Sylyn, Lothair, Carolina, Middelburg, Belfast, Hendrina, Bethal, Ermelo, Vryheid, Dundee, Bizana, Flagstaff, Harding, Cedarville, Empangeni, Greytown, Pietermaritzburg, Swartberg, Underburg, Ixopo, Kokstad, Mooiriver, Winterton and Swaziland.

Mr. Riaan Uys is the branch manager of the TWK branch in Pongola and has been working there since August 2016.  This is a busy branch, servicing the local farmers in the area and with the Covid pandemic, it was his responsibility to ensure the safety of his staff and customers.

“We employ 17 staff and service approximately 200 to 300 customers through our doors every day,” says Riaan.  “After the first lockdown, I knew I had to find a product that was bullet-proof to clean and sanitise our stores and employees.”  Riaan was introduced to BarrierTech sanitizer and disinfectant and in April 2020, he implemented it as the only product for staff and customers to use in the store.  “I set up a sanitizing machine at the front of the store, dispensing BarrierTech for walk-in customers to use and placed BarrierTech sanitisers at all employee workstations.  Most of our staff make use of public transport, and as an additional preventative requirement, they were required to spray BarrierTech on their hands and faces before leaving work for the day.”

Since April 2020, although other branches have had incidents where they have had to self-isolate, Riaan is pleased to say that there have been zero Covid infections at his store.  “I am convinced that our success has been due to BarrierTech,” says Riaan.

While most sanitisers on the market today merely kill the bacteria, as soon as the alcohol evaporates, the surface can still be contaminated again.  The BarrierTech technology is unique in that it leaves a residual effect, meaning that after cleaning or sanitising, it forms a biofilm (protective layer) so that bacterial agents find it difficult to attach to and multiply on.  It is also effective against most known pathogenic bacteria and viruses and prevents cross-contamination.

Other TWK branches have since started using BarrierTech and we look forward to hearing about their successes in helping curb the spread of the Corona Virus.

BarrierTech is now also available for purchase at all TWK Mpumalanga branches including Pongola, Vryheid and Dundee.
