Project Description
The project entails the extension of the high-voltage electricity network to the Northwest, Chobe and Gantsi districts to cater for new power capacity requirements and connect areas that are supplied through cross-border power lines to the national grid.

The NWTGC project comprises two phases.

Phase 1 entails the construction of a backbone transmission network of about 500 km, a 400 kV line from Morupule B to Maun through Orapa, 400 kV substations at Orapa and Maun, a diverting (in and out) existing Serule–Orapa 220 kV line into the proposed Orapa 400 kV substation and a new 220 kV line from the proposed Orapa 400 kV substation to the existing 220 kV substation.

A 220 kV line will be built from the Maun substation to Toteng, where a 220/132 kV substation will be erected. Various 132 kV lines will be built from Toteng to supply Gumare, Shakawe and Gantsi.
