The ninth yearly African Economic Conference (AEC), under the theme Skills, Technology and Innovation for Economic Transformation would be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 17 to 19, bringing together academics and development practitioners in the field of economics to dialogue and exchange thoughts on the key challenges facing the continent.

The AEC series is jointly organised by the African Development Bank, the Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Program.

“This year's AEC will offer a unique avenue for researchers, policymakers and development practitioners from Africa, and elsewhere, to debate Africa’s soft infrastructure needs and their catalytic impact on the speed and scope of economic transformation and inclusive growth,” the conference organisers said.

In addition to fostering dialogue that promotes the exchange of ideas and innovative thinking and encouraging and enhancing research on economic policy issues related to the development of African economies, the AEC also aimed to provide an opportunity for young African researchers to disseminate their work and share information with African policymakers.

A call for papers encouraging young researchers to submit original thinking on the theme would be announced in due course.
