PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) has lifted the prohibition notice against copper miner Aditya Birla Minerals at its Nifty underground mine.

In March this year, the DMP suspended all mining operations at Nifty after a sinkhole was discovered.

Aditya Birla subsequently conducted two rounds of probe drilling at the mine, to ensure that the operation was safe.

The DMP has requested initial monthly update meetings with the Inspectors of Mines to discuss the proposed mining schedule at Nifty, the progress of underground activities, ongoing geotechnical monitoring and analysis, as well as other relevant matters.

Aditya Birla said that the company was proceeding with the detailed stoping, development and production schedule for the mine, to ensure a speedy resumption of operations.

The company has given no indication of when mining would resume.
