Name and Location
NEXUS gas transmission project, US.

Client
DTE Energy and Spectra Energy are the lead developers of the proposed project.

Project Description
The NEXUS project will increase access to Marcellus and Utica shale.

The project will comprise a newly constructed 107-cm-diameter greenfield pipeline that will extend about 402 km, from receipt points, in eastern Ohio to interconnect with the existing pipeline grid in south-eastern Michigan.

Most of the new greenfield pipeline route will use existing corridors and existing infrastructure will be used to minimise environmental and local impacts. As proposed, the pipeline will also use existing and expansion capacity on the Texas Eastern, the DTE gas system and Vector pipeline systems to access markets in Ohio, Michigan, Chicago and the Dawn Hub.

The project will be capable of transporting two-billion cubic feet a day of gas.

Value
The project will cost an estimated $2-billion, depending on final market demand and project scope.

Duration
The project is estimated to begin construction during the first quarter of 2017 and be completed and operational by the end of the year, subject to final market demand and receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals.

Latest Developments
Fluor Corporation has been awarded a contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPCM) management services for the main pipeline. In addition to the main line, Fluor is designing and managing the construction of up to four compressor stations in Ohio to maintain the pressure needed to push the gas through the pipeline, as well as four meter stations that will provide flow-control and gas-quality monitoring services.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Fluor (EPCM).

On Budget and on Time?
Too early to state.
