Newcrest starts global hunt for CEO
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Newcrest Mining is hunting for a new CEO after announcing the retirement of MD and CEO Sandeep Biswas.
The company’s CFO Sherry Duhe will assume the role of interim CEO, effective immediately.
Biswas will remain in an advisory capacity during the CEO transition period, ahead of his retirement on March 18, 2023. His retirement as MD takes effect as of December 18.
A global internal and external search for a new CEO is now under way.
“Much has been achieved over the past nine years, which has only been possible because of the efforts of the very capable people who work at Newcrest and the strong partnerships built with the communities where we operate. I wish them all the best for the future,” Biswas said on Monday.
“It has been an honour to lead this company and ensure safety and innovation have become ingrained into the very core of how we go about our business every day.”
With Duhe’s appointment as interim CEO, group treasurer Dan O’Connell has been appointed as interim CFO, effective immediately. COO Craig Jones will also resume responsibility for all Newcrest operations on an interim basis.
To provide continuity and ongoing support alongside the management team, Peter Tomsett will have increased involvement in the business during the transition period. He has broad gold mining and international business experience, having been an executive and non-executive director at a range of mining companies listed on the Australian, Toronto, New York and London stock exchanges.
