A modular and scalable three-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to support both energy and process efficiency in industrial applications, has recently been launched.

The unit is said to be 50% more compact than the industry average and is particularly suited for space-constrained industrial environments.

The newest addition to Schneider Electric’s Galaxy range is said to offer a highly efficient, rugged and compact design with up to 99% efficiency in its patented ECOnversion mode. Available worldwide, the Galaxy VL 200-500 kW (400 V/480 V) three-phase UPS includes the company’s Patented ‘Live Swap’ touch-safe design for enhanced employee protection and business continuity for critical applications. The feature allows users to safely add or replace power modules while the UPS is online and fully operational, which offers enhanced business continuity and reduced unscheduled downtime.

“The new, energy efficient Galaxy VL sets an extremely high standard for UPS innovation and is designed to help industrial customers maximize production outputs while minimising downtime and total cost of ownership,” said Schneider Electric 3-Phase Global Offer Management VP Mustafa Demirkol.

“It is in keeping with our focus on the future requirements for industrial organizations, driving energy and process efficiency, while improving resiliency and production line reliability. As a Green Premium product, it also delivers best-in-class power protection while being designed for sustainable operations and inclusion within recycle, reuse, circularity, and traceability programmes.”

Key benefits of the new Galaxy VL include:

  • Maximising space for critical production equipment: At 8 m2, the Galaxy VL is said to be the most compact UPS in its class– 50% more compact than the market average. In addition, the Galaxy lithium-ion battery cabinets deliver a total space savings of up to 70% compared to VRLA battery solutions.
  • Rugged design for harsh environments: includes high operating temperatures of up to 40 °C, dust filters, conformal coating on critical PCBA boards and seismic-ready system protection.
  • Saves money: The unit’s modular, scalable platform enables a pay-as-you-grow model, aimed at reducing capital expenditure investment, operating costs, energy consumption and total cost of ownership. Power can be scaled in 50 kW increments from 200 kW to 500 kW, with no extra footprint.
  • Reach sustainability goals: Up to 99% efficient in ECOnversion mode, promising a full return on investment within two years in energy savings. As a Schneider Electric Green Premium product, it also includes the option of long-lasting lithium-ion batteries.
  • Increased Reliability: By connecting the Galaxy VL to EcoStruxure, Schneider Electric's open, interoperable, Internet of Things-enabled system architecture and platform, industrial operators can benefit from the company’s information technology software and services.

The Galaxy VL is available worldwide and can be purchased directly from Schneider Electric.
